Eyelash Facts

Today We’re Talking Eyelashes

Fact: Eyelashes grow on a four to eight week cycle and we lose on average 1-4 eyelashes every day. We have between 50 -200 eyelashes on each eye!

Just as with all of the hairs on our body, eyelashes have a specific lifecycle.

There are three phases of eyelash growth:

Actively growing stage

Resting stage

Shedding stage.

Vigorous or frequent eye rubbing can cause our eyelashes to break or fall out prematurely or become more sparse over time.  Eyelashes will not start to grow back immediately if they fall out prematurely so always treat your lashes with care.

Our general health and diet can affect hair growth and condition. Eating a healthy diet is key to our overall health of course and this also applies to our hair and eyelash health.

Eggs, beans, fish, yogurt and soy protein is also beneficial for simulating lash growth.

It’s especially important to remove mascara at the end of the day because its stiffness can tug and break lashes while you sleep.

Always remove eye makeup gently, using a good quality, gentle eye make up remover and avoid dragging the skin around our eyes – skin is particularly delicate around the eye area! Use cotton discs or a cotton ball or a good quality eye cleansing cloth and take your time with eye makeup up removal.

Would you like longer natural Lashes?

Ditch the falsies!

Your eyelashes could be on the shorter side for a several reasons:

Skin conditions around the eye and eyelid can affect growth and lash appearance.

Mascara, false lashes or medicated eye drops can dry out the hair or cause the lashes to break.

Also, liquid eyeliner can sometimes create a chemical reaction leading to lash fallout.

If you like the false lash effect, some lash glues contain ingredients such as latex or formaldyhide, so be sure to check the label when applying false lashes or check with your lash extension technician if you wear semi permanent lashes.

There are several ways to naturally encourage eyelash growth.

Whether it’s moisturising them with various oils and serums or simply combing them through, there are plenty of easy and effective ways to make your lashes grow longer and stronger.

Be patient – over time, there are things you can do which will give you lovely strong and fluffy lashes!

Natural Olive Oil.

Rich in fatty acids which moisturise and soften lashes.

Use a clean or disposable eyelash wand and dip the wand into the oil then gently brush onto your lashes.

Vitamin E Oil

Has been used by celebrities to encourage stronger, softer hair and lashes.

Vitamin E oil is affordable and can be applied directly to our skin and hair.  Supplements can also boost our immune systems!

Natural Coconut Oil

One of my favourite all round beauty products.

Virgin Coconut oil is completely safe to use around the eye area and is also a great moisturiser and strengthener. Apply using a clean mascara wand or lash brush and you can use it on your scalp too!

Castor Oil

One of the most common ingredients in eyelash serums!  Castor oil moisturises eyelashes so that they appear fuller and thicker and can help promote hair growth
